Behind the Random Ruff!

UPDATE 8/29 --

Well, it has been a week + since Astro's injections and he is doing well...we would like to thank all of Astro's Chip-In guardians, esp. Judy L. of Ashford, CT for donating the remaining monies ($555) in loving memory of her beloved Border Collie Tal (pictured above in the beautiful Fall photo and w/Judy in the snow. Tal was also a HW+ survivor himself at age 2) -- Judy is a self-professed "sucker" for HW + Border Collies...thank you Judy for your generosity! Also, once medically cleared Astro will be traveling to Barb Armata of Taravale Farm in NY for a herding eval.

UPDATE 8/18 --

Astro went in for his HW treatment today, please send prayers his way...he will be there until Sat. morning -- Dr. Liddell and staff are pictured in the first photo and Astro is in very good hands. I took some pictures and wanted to share on his progress -- he was crying the blues to his tennis ball about today's events, but I told him I would hold down the Baseball fort, go Phillies:

.........................................................................................

Well, it has been a week since Astro made his way from TN to us -- traveling many miles and states to get here, through the generosity of many special guardians (above, Astro w/his last leg transporter Karen). We learned after Astro was rescued that he tested "high" postive w/Heartworms (common in the South) and so are committment to Astro continues. He will begin HW treatment on Wed. 8/18-19 -- he is being treated aggressively w/Immiticide which will require two (2) painful injections in the back muscles w/at least 30 days of cage rest w/limited activity. It is my strong opinion that Astro was used for breeding and kept in a crate for long hours, as he has old callouses on his elbows and is a true gentleman in the crate, way too quiet and on occasion will let out a random bark. He also displays some type of formal training either companion or working which once healed will be evaluated further. He does not like rain/thunder, however tolerates other loud noises and I suspect he may have caused his own misfortune as a "runner". We will continue to update his story w/new photo's of course. We are thankful for the generous donations we have received, but we are only @ 16% -- please forgive us, we only ask on behalf of those who can't. Astro is still needing financial "guardians", remember he is a ball "fanatic"...please bring our Chip-In goal home.
